LOCK-DOWN – ART, HARRY POTTER and some blatant self promotion

Hello you lovely Muggles …. etc etc etc lockdown is ok I guess, as an artist I’m used to sitting on my own working but I have definitely produced more work in the last 70 days than in the last 5 years!

For those wanting to know my secrets – well I don’t have any, Ive just got myself into a creative routine.  I signed up for the 100 days project and that was easier cos Im in self-isolation so its killed time and been a great diary of the nonsense Ive been up to daily – hey …. today I ate an avocado!  Follow me if you want to on instagram, Im up to day 50 – and I’m very funny

Ive also been sorting through sketchbooks and signed up for the £1,000 artists pledge – sell a piece of work for £200 or less and when you reach £1k buy another artists work for £200 or less ….. I sold loads of my lovely toyobo prints for £50 (instead of the £120 I usually sell them for) and a few paintings at huge knockdown prices.  There’s no point in selling for my normal price as people are not wanting to part with huge amounts of their hard earned cash during this crazy lockdown – but if you are one of them, my work is on my website http://www.sarah-ewilson.co.uk.

DANCE 1

OI – PUNK AS…………

I love going to gigs and I love taking photos so logically, for my next collection I plan to do a series of pictures based around the images I took at various concerts (some were taken pre mobile phones, when you had to smuggle a camera in hidden in your knickers)

I also found a beaten up, doodled on and “punk as” copy of 100 Nights at the Roxy on Ebay,  and reproduced the original Roxy advertising posters and put them on A2 perspex.

So with out further ado – heres my original Adam Ant poster – from the teenage bedroom wall years (mixed media on box board A4 – yacht varnished £150 via paypal – email vilebodies@hotmail.com for details)

These are one off pictures – so once its gone its gone xx

IT’S THEIR DUTY TO BE BEAUTIFUL

I read an article in the Sunday Times about military parades held in Pyongyang, North Korea.  These propaganda events become a beauty pageant – the best looking young women are pushed to the forefront to convince westerners that the entire female polulation of North Korea is easy on the eye.

I decided to capture this in a painting, taking care of the position of the woman soldier, I wanted the face to be the focus point, reflecting her beauty, then, as your eye moves around the painting you catch a glimpse of her military insignia on the hat and shoulders.

As with most of my paintings here’s a step by step to the final piece.

NAPIERS GALLERY

Summer is here and I’m back to my happy place – painting.  I have been asked to paint a series for Napiers Gallery to exhibit in the Edinburgh Festival.

They gave me a disgusting picture on canvas from IKEA and I was given free reign to do what I wanted with it.  As Napiers is all about fitness, health and flexiblity I decided to paint a gymnast so I researched circus performers, dancers and gymnasts and this is the step by step process to my first canvas….
