Ooops I haven’t posted since February – that must mean Ive been uber busy or uber lazy – lets stick with the first one cos obviously you can’t prove the second.
Suddenly realised I hadn’t painted for a very long time so I dug out the acrylics and canvas’ and off I went. As usual I like to mix my media using images, gloss and paint – two pieces were exhibited in the ESBAT exhibition and although they didn’t sell one was chosen to be exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy on the mound (till October so you can still see it)
I also had a significant birthday so July was mainly a drunken haze and a bit of mid life crisis surgery – got my cataract operation so I can hopefully (eventually) actually be able to see me work close up!!!
Esbat Collective presents: The Switch About Esbat Collective
Esbat is a collective of female artists from Scotland, Ireland, Sweden, Japan, Poland and Germany. Many who met at the Edinburgh College of Art. They came together at the beginning of 2016 to curate a group show and discovered a striking synergy across their combined work.
About The Switch
The Switch is Esbat Collective’s fourth exhibition. It features the work of Marta Tycinska, Mel Roy, Rebecca Green, Heather Craig, Fee Scroggie, Mary Trodden, Sarah Wilson, Rachael Forbes, Penny Forbes, Carolann Alexander, Komachi Goto, Caroline Fulton, Fiona Michie, Faith Elliot, Jo Richardson, Olivia Irvine, Marissa Stoffer and Ciara Dunne.
The show explores issues surrounding idolatry and the work within it is meticulous and highly crafted. The group examine forms of adoration, the uneasiness between authenticity and artifice, and how individuals construct their identities through the identification of others. Inverting forms of worship, the pieces are often surreal, affectionate and comical.
Alex Hetherington writing about Esbat Collective in ‘I missed the dreaming of it all’:
“The subject and substances of ‘making’ here returns again in different but corresponding shapes… glass-blowing, tapestry, drawing, painting, sculptural projects, costume making and performative works…
…the melding of genres becomes a shared, collective attribute. There is a sense of elation in the handling of materials and the bringing together of opposing materials.”

Esbat Collective, January 2017
Well me old sea shanties, Ive been having a lovely couple of months working on a new collection for an exhibition at Studio FlamingosaurusRex (the purple gallery at 22 Bruntsfield Place – opposite the garage and up a bit).
Even with directions as good as mine you may be better off consulting a map – and, conveniently enough, thats exactly what I’ve been working on.
I have plundered 16 ordinance survey maps of Edinburgh in the 1940’s and left my pirate stamp ….
much more fun than satnav….
Come and see my unframed pirate maps and original framed lino cuts – opening night 18 November 2016, 6pm-beer runs out.
Exhibition runs till 1 December, come on the opening night dressed as a pirate and get £10 off a print – I also have pirate badges for sale as its Children in Need and all money raised will go to a good cause.
What are they pirate maps??? They just d’aaaaaaar

I love going to gigs and I love taking photos so logically, for my next collection I plan to do a series of pictures based around the images I took at various concerts (some were taken pre mobile phones, when you had to smuggle a camera in hidden in your knickers)
I also found a beaten up, doodled on and “punk as” copy of 100 Nights at the Roxy on Ebay, and reproduced the original Roxy advertising posters and put them on A2 perspex.
So with out further ado – heres my original Adam Ant poster – from the teenage bedroom wall years (mixed media on box board A4 – yacht varnished £150 via paypal – email firstname.lastname@example.org for details)
These are one off pictures – so once its gone its gone xx
